Ultrasound technology can be used in many applications
The human ear can only detect sound in the sonic frequency range of 20hz to 20KHz. Sounds above this range are referred to as ultrasonic, meaning above the human hearing capability. The ultrasound instrument sensor measures this signal and then, the heterodyne, demodulates to a frequency range within the human hearing range.
Uses of ultrasound in Condition Monitoring are:
A noise survey takes noise measurements throughout an entire plant or marine application using ASHRAE, DNV, ABS & ISO standards.
Noise surveys provide very useful information which enables us to identify:
− 1/3rd octave band analysis can be done to identify the frequency of exposure
− Areas where employees are likely to be exposed to harmful levels of noise and where personal dosimeter may be needed
− Machines and equipment which generate harmful levels of noise which might detect some equipment problems
− Employees who might be exposed to unacceptable noise levels
− Noise control options to reduce noise exposure
Noise control can be achieved whilst noise pollution can be reduced by using this data by the client.
