Infrared technology development, with advanced detector technology combining sophisticated hardware and advanced software, with the further reduction in the cost related to the technology, has led to the increased popularity and widespread usage in the industry.

 

Thermal cameras are very useful for both troubleshooting problems as well as for Asset Condition Monitoring, for long-term preventive maintenance. Using a handheld thermal camera, we can capture infrared temperature measurements of the equipment’s temperature profile as a two-dimensional image.

 

Thermal images are an easy way to identify apparent temperature differences in industrial three-phase electrical circuits, compared to their normal operating conditions. By inspecting the thermal gradients of all three phases, side by side, technicians can quickly spot performance anomalies on individual legs due to unbalance or overloading.

 

An infrared camera can create a thermographic image based on the principle that the radiated electromagnetic energy is visible through this camera. This type of camera can detect the heat which is displayed along with the normal visual image to give an idea of the thermal profile of the object. Further analysis using the software can generate the report for further evaluation and finding any anomalies in the area of interest.

 

Thermal imaging can be very commonly used in many applications in the industrial sector. Currently, the most common use of the thermal image camera and the temperature gun is used in the medical field to detect coronavirus within public locations, which helps in the restriction of transmission by maintaining social distancing between infected individuals and isolation of these personals.
